I Know What it Is When I See It!
Thank you all for making this one of the most popular places to find out about the BSA's uniforms, insignia and badges, and flags and other material. I'm working as hard as I can to make this a current and historical look at the BSA's many pieces of insignia. I cannot do it, however, without you - your questions, your scans and your loans of pieces of cloth to help make this site even better. A special thanks to those people inside the BSA's Supply and Program Divisions for their contributions and assistance over the years to this unofficial site!

"Caveat Empourm", I think, is what they say about buying "Scouting" things from eBay and Yahoo Auctions...."Let the Buyer Beware". There are some items being auctioned on auction sites which are NOT "Scouting items" at all and others which the opening bids have been generously inflated which can be purchased for a whole lot less directly from the BSA. If there's any doubt as to the authenticity of a Scouting item, you might want to check here and subscribe to Patch-L and ask the friendly Scouters over there about it BEFORE you plunk down cash or card to get it!

Official insignia and uniform items shown or illustrated here are (R)Boy Scouts of America.

This electronic publication is NOT approved, sanctioned, nor reviewed by the Boy Scouts of America, and therefore should NOT be considered an official publication of that organization. Where possible, the contents of this publication has been reviewed with a number of field professionals and volunteers, the BSA's official uniforming and insignia guides, and with several Councils' program guides to insure consistancy with current National policy and uniforming guidance. Since uniforming is one of the eight methods of quality Scouting, this guide was produced with the sole purpose of providing Scouting adults and youth leaders a way to visually review and see BSA uniforming and insignia policies.

This publication reflects the consoldated opinions of Scouters from the Scouts-L youth programs electronic mailing list, and has been supplemented by scanned images, photographs and line drawings featuring current or past BSA national and local Council insignia and uniforming items. Insignia displaying one or more of the BSA's official indicia are (c) Boy Scouts of America; insignia appearing without an official indicia may be the property of the Boy Scouts of America if listed in a present or previous edition of the BSA's Insignia (Control) Guide.
