All species are found in New Guinea on the northern side of the central mountain dividing range. Gerald Allen has reported finding a new Glossolepis like species on the southern side of these mountains. This new species may form the basis of a new genus of rainbowfish.
Iriatherina werneri Found in both Northern Australia and Southern New Guinea. This genus has only one species. Although relatively common in the aquarium trade, raising the fry to this species can be quite a challange.
Rhadinocentrus ornatus Found only in Austalia. This species appears periodically in the hobby, but has proven difficult to maintain over the long term.
