Affinis are found throught the northern half of New Guinea. One of the most popular forms is the Pagwi collection. This form seems to have suffered greatly after generations of aquarium life. The body shape has changed and the color faded. But recently a new collection from Emas Lake was brought into the United States. This form is from a new area, and mimics the original colors and form of the Pagwi. Through the efforts of dedicated breeders, we hope to keep the Emas Lake affinis from suffering the same fate of the Pagwi.

herbetaxelrodi - Found in southern New Guinea. This quite attractive and popular rainbowfish is quite common in the hobby. There is only one problem. Many of the original specimens to get into the hobby were crossed with a trifasciata. It is very diffcult today to be sure any stock is verifiably pure, but efforts are underway to locate and maintain pure specimens.
irianjaya - Found only in Irian Jaya New Guinea. This fish is rather rare in the hobby.
