Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7 PM  22 members present.

Board Reports:

* Vice President:  Andy Noll called the meeting to order and reviewed the raffle prizes for the evening that included a Hanger 9 Tango 40 and assorted smaller items.

* Safety:  We were reminded not to hand launch or land planes in the pilots' area.  Hand launching is to occur on the runway.

* Membership:  Stan Zdon reports that next month he will include a renewal form in the newsletter.

* Events:  Bob Nagle reported on last month's Fun Fly.  It was a great event with the weather cooperating.  October's Fun Fly will be this coming Saturday, October 20 with trim flights beginning at 9 AM and the contest commencing at 10 AM.  The weather promises to be good.  We will use up the prizes left over from the year at this event.

* Treasurer: Jack Groetsch reports that we are ending the year in good shape & all finances are in order.

Old Business:

* Further discussion was held on flying combat at the club.  It was generally agreed that it would be limited to the SSC style (slow, survivable, combat). .15 size engines to be used with a maximum sale price of $65.  Minimum plane weight of 2½ lbs/glow and 3 lbs/electric.

* Bob Nagle mentioned that electric flying at the Dome will begin shortly and that anyone interested should consult the MARCEE web site.

New business:

* Nominations were held for the four positions that will become vacant next year.  Bob Nagle, Andy Noll and Steve Ulrich offered to serve again if needed.  Eric Castrodale and Jim Taylor also offered their services.  An election will be held next month at the meeting.

Solo patches and certificates were awarded to Gary Breitenbach, Gary Titus and Dan Thiede.
Show and Tell:

* Dave Green brought in a completely home brewed electric he fashioned out of a Domino's pizza box.  The wing had a nice airfoil shape to it with 4 struts.

The fuselage used part of a paper towel cardboard roll to cover the radio & servos.  It slipped back for access. It is powered by a 320 brushed motor with a 5-5 prop and LiPo battery.  For control he is using a Futaba 4EX.  He has had several successful flights with it to date.  Great job Dave!!!

* Eric Castrodale brought in a Lanier Riper SSC combat plane he recently completed.  This kit has a foam wing with carbon fiber wing spars for reinforcement. The wing is covered with bi-directional reinforced tape along with decorative covering.  The profile fuselage is made out of a high density plastic.  The rudder and elevator are made out of Coroplast.  A Magnum .15 engine turning an 8X3 prop powers the plane.  The weight came in at 3 ½ lbs.  Eric reports that it flies great and turns on a dime.  Eric encouraged those present to get their own SSC combat plane and reports that about 12 are agreeable so far.  Thanks Eric!!
