NEO-THOLIAN CARRIERS AND FIGHTERS |
All initial records indicated the Neo-Tholians
in the Tholian home galaxy did not operate fighters. However, additional information has been
discovered which shows this to be in error. They developed fighters and carriers which they used to
patrol newly conquered planets. Unlike their police brothers of this galaxy, they used internal
shuttle bays. They never developed Aegis, but with the help of the Tholians of this galaxy were
able to produce a full aegis system after their arrival in our galaxy. The Neo-Tholians produced
two fighters. The first was the Lava 1. It had 2xPh-3 (FA), speed of 8, a damage factor of 8. The
second fighter was the Lava 2. It was an enlarged version of the Lava 1. It retained the 2xPh-3
(FA), but added two Particle Cannons. The increase in size forced a reduction in speed to 6. Damage
factor 10. The PC was limited to range 8 and can not be overloaded. There are no EW versions of
fighters in the Tholian home galaxy, although two seat versions were produced for training. No
fighter pods of any type were used in the home galaxy.

247th COMPOSITE CARRIER STRIKE GROUP |
When the Seltorians rose up to over throw the Tholians, a
number of scattered carrier groups were able to escape. Three of these carrier groups rendezvoused
outside of the home galaxy and formed a composite strike fleet, known as the 247th Composite
Strike Group, with the intent of staging a counter attack against the Seltorians. When they learned
that the Seltorians had completely defeated the Will, and had also sent a fleet after the fleeing
312th, they set out in pursuit of the Seltorians. The 247th arrived in our galaxy during the latter
half of Y184. The 247th was centered around a NVS group [NVS+NEC+NDE], NDV group [NDV+NFE], and
also included a NFV group [NFV+NFE], LSR and a NDS light scout. |
147th COMPOSITE CARRIER STRIKE GROUP |
Two other carrier groups, one NVA group
[NVA+NEC+2xNDE], a NVL group [NVL+NDE+NFE], a NHT Heavy Tug, and a NFS Picket Scout. They too
(unknown to the 247th) learned of the Wills defeat as well as the Seltorian fleet sent after the
312th. They set out on an effort to hunt down the Seltorian fleet. Just as they were leaving the Tholian Home Galaxy a HSR Heavy Survey
Cruiser returning from a mission joined them. They followed the Seltorian Fleet (on a
parallel course to the 247th) and arrived in our galaxy in the Spring of Y185. |
(R7P.161) HEAVY CARRIER (NVA).
Built on a dreadnought hull this heavy carrier operated 24 fighters (18 Lava 1 and 6 Lava 2s). It
retained most of the firepower of the DN. Two of the Web Casters were removed in order to
make room for the fighters. It appears that only a single type of this ship was built as
the Neo-Tholians felt it was a waste of a DN hull. Escorts were a NEC and two NDE, but
could be escorted by 2 NECs and a NDE and/or a NFE.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 12-14[W](12)/6-7[W](6). Command rating 10. One NVA
arrives with the 147th in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as
crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. New fighters must be purchased. A Counter
for the ship and the 4NVA group is provided.
(R7601) NEO-THOLIAN BATTLE CRUISER (NBC) This was an upgrade of
the NCA. It entered operation in the Tholian fleet just before the final battles of the rebellion. One
of these ships, along with a picket scout, a destroyer, 3 frigates, and a mix of different freighters
set out on the trail of the 312th. This group, arrived in Tholian space in Y183, intervening in a battle
between the Tholians and Klingons (in which one of the frigates was lost). After the battle, the ships
were repaired and refitted, replacing the particle cannons with disruptors, reentering service in Y184.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 10[W]/5. Command rating 10. One NBC arrives in
the Spring of Y183 entering service in the Spring of Y184. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is
treated as crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service.A ship counter is provided.
(R7P.361) HEAVY TUG (NHT).
This ship was produced by modifying a standard heavy cruiser. It was used by the Neo-Tholians
to provide heavy haul capabilities. One of these ships managed to find the 147th and provided
logistical support for them in their trip to our galaxy. It uses the same tug pods as the
NLT.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6-9[W]/3-5. Command rating 8. One NHT arrives
with the 147th in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and
must be repaired before it can enter service. A ship counter, Battle and Carrier pods are provided.
(R7P.361) HEAVY SURVEY CRUISER (HSR)
Built on a modified heavy cruiser hull, this ship was intended to provide the Neo-Tholians
with long range survey capabilities. Only a very few (two or three) were built, as
opposition from the military commanders were not pleased with having to give up a heavy
combat ship. One of these ships joined the 147th just as they were leaving the
Tholian Home Galaxy.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6-9[W]u/3-5[W]. Command
rating 8. One HSR arrives with the 147th in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship
is treated as crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. A Counter is provided.
(R7P.363) STRIKE CARRIER (NVS). This main line
carrier was produced by modifying a heavy cruiser. It normally operated 9 Lava 1 and 3 Lava 2s, but
records show it also operated with all Lava 1s. Few of these conversions were done as the Neo-Tholians
were unhappy losing Web Casters. Escorts were originally intended to be a NEC and a NDE, but it also
known to operate with a pair of NDEs.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games the
following would apply.
Counter Factors are 7-9[W](6)/4-5[W](3). Command rating 8. One NVS arrives
with the 247th in the Fall of Y184. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and
must be repaired before it can enter service. New fighters must be purchased. A Counter for the ship and
the 3NVS are provided.
(R7P.364) FAST CRUISER (NFC). This design was
an attempt by the Tholians to produce a fast cruiser. Unable to add a larger warp engine
to the Command Module, the Tholians added one of the small engines produced for the PC to
the rear hull. Information regarding this ship are sketchy and it has not been confirmed
that one was really built, although many experts believe that in fact one such ship was
indeed built.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 8-9[W][F]/4-5[W]. Command rating 8. Can convert one
NCA to NFC in the fall of Y182. Cost is 1 EP. Additional conversions cannot be made. A Counter is
provided.
(R7P.365) WEB DEFENDER (WD) A shortage of
disruptors occurred during the refitting of one of the Neo-Tholian heavy cruisers. Rather than have
the ship sit idle until additional disruptors could be produced, the Tholians replaced the Particle
Cannons with Phaser-1s. The ship was then sent to defend the border against a Klingon raid. The ship
did so well it was never given disruptors. The ship was designated the Web Defender and served as a
mainstay in attacks against the Holdfast. In F&E terms this ship is identical to a NCA and no
counter is provided.
(R7D.366) FAST SCOUT CRUISER (NFSC). This
ship (like the FSC) existed only on the drawing boards. The concept behind it was was the same as the
FSC, namely to scout nearby Klingon and Romulan space for candidate worlds to "colonize". The Tholians
were never able to spare a ship for this conversion but the plans called for the completion of at least
one of them in Y183.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 4-9[W][F]u/2-5[W]. Command
rating 8. (4EW:2AF)(1EW:4AF). Can convert one NCA to NFSC in the fall of Y182. Cost is 5 EP (two step
conversion, or NFC to NFSC cost 5 EP. Additional conversions cannot be made. A Counter is
provided.
(R7P.461) LIGHT TUG (NLT). One of the ships
that the 312th brought with them (which at first was thought to be military insignificant)
was a Light Tug. These ships were built on modified light cruiser hulls. The Tholians used
them in their home galaxy with a variety of pods. The NLT that accompanied the 312th
carried a pair of cargo pods that was apparently used for supplies during their long
voyage. The NLT can carry one "1" WT pod or two ".5" WT pods, but
cannot carry one ".5" and one "1" WT pods. Two ".5" WT pods
are the equivalent of one "1" WT pod and increase the movement cost to 1 and the
turn mode to C.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 3-7[W]/1-4. Command Rating 6. Add one NLT to the
Tholian 312th Battle Fleet. Can convert NCL to NLT once per year beginning in the Spring of Y179.
Conversion cost is 3 EP. A ship counter, Battle and Carrier pods are provided.
(R7P.462) LIGHT SURVEY CRUISER (LSR) A
smaller sister of the heavy survey cruiser this ship was built on a light cruiser hull.
The Neo-Tholians used it to supplement the few heavy survey cruisers. One of these ships
helped pave the way for the 247th in their quest to find a new home.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 4-7[W]u/2-4. Command
Rating 6. EWP is 3. One LSR arrives with the 247th in fall of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships.
Ship is treated as crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.463) ESCORT CRUISER (NEC) When the
Tholians first deployed the NVS they took in hand a light cruiser and modified it to this
design. The design maintained a single Web Caster giving the carrier group additional
heavy weapon support. It has ready racks and deck crews to service the fighters of the
carriers. It does not deploy fighters of its own.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6-7[W]n/3-4n. Command rating
6. One NEC with the NVS arrives with the 247th in the Fall of Y185. One, escorting the NVA, also
arrives with the 147th in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as
crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.464) LIGHT CARRIER (NVL)
A fairly rare conversion of the light cruiser produced this carrier. It deployed a flight
of 9 Lava 1s and was not able to operate the larger Lava 2s. Its escorts were a NDE and a
NFE, although it occasionally was escorted by a pair of NFEs.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6-7[W](4)/3-4(2). Command rating 6. One NVL arrives
with the 147th in fall of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and must
be repaired before it can enter service. New fighters must be purchased. A Counter for the ship and
the 2NVL are provided.
(R7P.465) MULTI-ROLE CRUISER (NMR) The
Neo-Tholians never envisioned a multi-role cruiser. This ship was designed only after they
reached our galaxy. Using the technology employed by the Tholians of our galaxy, the
Neo-Tholians modified a single light cruiser to this design in Y182.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 7-8[W](1)/4[W]. Command rating 6. Can convert
one NCL to MRC in the fall of Y182. Cost is 6 EP +1 for the fighters. Cannot convert additional ships.
It is treated as an HDW, and can perform all the missions (except D) as outlined in (4H.0) Captain's
Module P6 The Galactic Smorgasbord. A ship counter and MRC Missions counters are provided.
(R7P.466) LIGHT MAULER (LMA) Plans for this
ship (which was never built) were based on the captured TKM. It was part of a massive
disinformation campaign by the Tholians. They reasoned that when word reached the Klingons
that they were converting many of their Neo-Tholian cruisers to maulers, the Klingons
would hesitate to attack, fearing maulers with the ability to freely cruise through web.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 7/4. Command rating 6. Can
convert one NCL to LMA once per turn beginning in the fall of Y182. Cost is 4 EP. A counter is
provided.
(R7P.467) COMMANDO CRUISER (NCMC) This design
was used in the home galaxy to put down planetary revolts. When the Tholians began counter attacking
the Seltorians, they for a time, considered converting one of their light cruisers to this configuration.
The need to keep the Neo-Tholian ships close to the home world cancelled the plans before any
conversions were done.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 3-7[W]G/1-4G. Command Rating 6. Can convert one NCL to
NCMC in the Fall of Y181. Cost is 2 EP. A counter is provided.
(R7P.468) PF TENDER (NPFT) When
the Tholian began plans for a larger PFT two ships were considered. One was the
War Cruiser and the other was a Neo-Tholian Light Cruiser. In the end the War
Cruiser was selected for full production as there were too few of the NCLs
available. Only the single NPFT used in the design study reached completion. The
NCL based PFT entered service at the same time as the PFW.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 5-7[W]Pu/2-4P. Command
Rating 6. EWP is 3. Can convert one NCL to NPFT in the Fall of Y181. Cost is 5
EP. A counter is provided.
(R7P.661) SCOUT DESTROYER (NDS) Built on
destroyer hulls to supplement the smaller, but more numerous NFS. Its mission was the same as the NFS.
One of these managed to link up with the 247th, and helped in its search for the Seltorians.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 3-6u/1-3. Command rating
5. EWP is 2. One NDS arrives with the 247th in fall of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is
treated as crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.662) DESTROYER ESCORT (NDE) Built in
consort with its larger sister the NEC, the NDE was the most widely used escort and was constructed on
a NDD hull. It has deck crews and ready racks to aid in rearming the carriers fighters, but did not
carry fighters of its own.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 5-6 n. Command rating 5. One NDE, escorting the NVS, arrives with the 247th in
the Fall of Y184. Three additional NDEs, two with the NVA and one with the NVL, arrive with the 147th
in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and must be
repaired before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.663) POCKET CARRIER (NDV) This was a
destroyer based carrier and by all indications was not widely deployed. It operated a flight of 8
Lava 1s, and was not capable of operating the larger Lava 2s. It was normally escorted by a NFE
although there are references to some being escorted by a NDE.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 5-6[W](4)/2-3(2). Command rating 5. One NDV arrives
with the 247th in the Fall of Y184. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and
must be repaired before it can enter service. New fighters must be purchased. A Counter for the ship and
the 2NDV are provided.
(R7P.702) HEAVY WAR DESTROYER (HDW) This
conjectural design was found in the Tholian Central Computer banks. It apparently was modeled after
the HDWs of both the Federation and the Klingons. The Tholians never took this design beyond the
design stages as they did not have a NDD they could spare. The studies put into it were used later on
the NMR.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6-7[W](1)/3-4. Command rating 6. Can convert one NDD
to HDW in the fall of Y180. Cost is 6 EP +1 for the fighters. Cannot convert additional ships. It is
a HDW, and can perform all the missions (except D) as outlined in (4H.0) Captain's Module P6 The
Galactic Smorgasbord. A ship counter and MRC Missions counters are provided.
(R7P.861) PICKET SCOUT (NFS) Built on Frigate
hulls this ship was used by the Neo-Tholians as a picket. Its mission was to patrol the outskirts of
newly captured systems keeping an eye out for any attempt by the captured race to establish independent
space flight.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 2-5u/1-3. Command rating 5.
EWP is 1. One NFS arrives with the 147th in the Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship
is treated as crippled and must be repaired before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.862) FRIGATE ESCORT (NFE) The NFE was not
built in numbers as great as the NDE and was built on converted frigate hulls. Like all Neo-Tholian
escorts it had ready racks and deck crews to service the carriers fighters. It did not operate fighters
of its own.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 4-5n/2-3n. Command rating 5. Two NFEs, one with the
NDV and one with the NFV, arrive with the 247th in the Fall of Y184. One more arrives with the 147th
in Spring of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled and must be repaired
before it can enter service. A counter is provided.
(R7P.863) ESCORT CARRIER (NFV) Constructed on
a modified frigate hull this small carrier was the most numerous Neo-Tholian carrier produced. It did
not normally operate alone being integrated into the main fleet. It was usually accompanied by a NFE.
It was also used on convoy duty. It operates Lava 1s and is unable to embark the larger Lava 2s.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 4-5(3)/2-3(1). Command rating 3. One NFV
arrives with the 247th in fall of Y185. Cannot convert additional ships. Ship is treated as crippled
and must be repaired before it can enter service. New fighters must be purchased. A Counter for the
ship and the 2NFV are provided.
(TUG PODS) The Tholians developed a number
of pods for use with their Light Tug.
(R7P.901) A cargo pod.
(R7P.902) A self defense pod which gave up some cargo capacity for an increase in self protection.
(R7P.903) A repair pod used by the Tholians to make "on-the-spot" repairs.
(R7P.904) A troop transport used to land troops on newly discovered planets.
(R7P.905) A battle pod that turned a NLT into a workable cruiser. It increases the
command rating by 2.
(R7P.906) A carrier pod that turned a NLT into a carrier. It increases the command rating by 1.
(R7P.907) A PF pod built only after the Tholians arrived in our galaxy.
(R7P.PF1) Neo-Tholian PF During the planning
stages for the PF there were two different plans completing for the contract. The second design was
based on the Neo-Tholian shaped ships. In the end the double-diamond shape design was selected as it
was felt it would be quicker to build. Two of the Neo-Tholian shaped PF Flotillas were produced
the second one being a Phaser variant. The design team also included plans
for Cargo, Ground Assault, Mine Warfare, Fi-Con, and Recovery variants.
(R7P.PF2) Neo-Tholian Heavy PF When the heavy
PF design based on the double-diamond shape proved to be unworkable, the Tholians turned to the abandoned Neo-Tholian shape. It
too proved unworkable. There was to be a Phaser version, as well as
Cargo, Ground Assault, Mine Warfare, Fi-Con, and Recovery variants.
(R7P.PF3) Ad-hoc PF The introduction of PFs
added to the difficultly the Tholians had defending the Holdfast. After they began production of
their PFs, a young junior engineer suggested using the Interceptor as a base for a alternate PF. His
concept involved simply adding a small "rear" section. He reasoned that these could
be produced very fast as there were still a number of interceptors available. Computer studies showed,
however, that the rear hull (with its new engines) would cost almost as much as a complete PF and
the project was dropped. The plans called for the interceptor "head" to be detachable
using (G12.9).
