The second day was brighter and warmer.
We had to go to another hotel to get our breakfast since this was the
2nd day after the end of a big hotel strike and our hotel as yet had no
food in its restaurant. The hotel around the corner was part of
the same chain so we ate there. We had breakfast every day as part
of the hotel package and dinner was included also on three or four of
the days.-------» |

Breakfast in Norway hotels was usually a
combination of freshly baked breads of several types, an assortment of
meats and cheeses, an assortment of flatbreads and crackers, cereal, yogurt,
fresh and/or dried fruits, scrambled eggs, wiener like sausages, baked
beans, and an assortment of juices, milks, teas and coffee. |
After breakfast we packed up our cameras and
headed out for more exploring. After a quick look round the area
we started out up the hill to the kings house. (Black line on map
headed right to left!) Sharon
commented on how unusual it was to be able to walk right up to the front
door of the palace. One guard stood at a guard box near the entrance
and one along the side. No other security was visible. A man
with a guitar case on his back rode a bicycle on the path right
next to the side of the building.-----» |

After wandering around the palace grounds we
decided to walk on up to Frogner Park. This is a large park with
lots of chris-crossed paths through the trees and around the
lakes. In the center is the Vigeland sculpture gardens with a large
monolith
depicting the struggle of mankind surrounded with many carved granite
sculptures showing the ages of mankind from frolicking youth to an aged
couple. |
